Turk Scientific Base will be laid in Antarctica in 2019
Science, Industry and Technology Minister Faruk Ozlu said that Turkish scientists are set to journey to Antarctica for polar research and soon Turkey will establish scientific base in Antarctica.
Minister Ozlu stated that the project carried out under the auspices of Presidency of the Republic in coordination with the Ministry and the Istanbul Technical University’s Polar Research Center (PolReC), started the second scientific expedition this year and stated that Turkey will get the right to build a scientific base after the third time and then apply for the status of 'advisory state'.
He added that the Turkish Antarctic Expedition Team (TAE) led by Assoc. Dr. Ozsoy, went to the first National Antarctic Scientific Expedition on 26 February-4 April 2017 and the second National Antarctic Scientific Expedition started on 15 February.
Ozlu said that the first National Antarctic Scientific Expedition of 9 people that took place last year cost 1 million 750 thousand liras.
