Turkmen national costume presented at the ethnological festival in Serbia
Turkmen national dresses were presented at the "West Ethnology Fest" in Serbia's capital, Belgrade, with the message "material cultural heritage will inspire the future."
In the final day of the cultural show, hosted by the Ethnographic Museum, a member of the Moscow member of the Association of Handicraft Masters, Professor Korpegul Khudayberdieva held a master-class dedicated on the national costume of Turkmenistan.
In her lecture, Khudayberdieva told about every variety of national costume and noted that the red color for the Turkmen people is a symbol of natural strength and has magical protective properties. “That is why, unlike other nations, the wedding dress of a Turkmen girl consists of a silk dress and a head robe in red color,” the Professor explained.
A separate part of the presentation was devoted to the skills of Turkmen jewelers. Since ancient times, jewelry made of silver and gold, gracefully encrusted with natural stones, have been an integral part of women’s dresses, and the total weight of jewelry decorating the wedding clothes of a Turkmen girl reaches 16-20 kilograms.
